Hair fall is a matter of concern for almost all the women, especially after giving birth to a baby. Pregnancy is a phenomenon in which you can notice a healthy hair, but it does come with a catch. During pregnancy, it is the tendency of hormones in your body to get altered at a great level. Hormones like estrogen and progesterone get high which leads to hair growth and a very minute amount of hair fall. Unfortunately, it is just a phase and a perk of pregnancy. After child birth, the levels of these hormones are drastically lowered which leads to severe hair fall.
While losing about 100 strands of hair each day is common for every woman, women after giving birth to a child can notice anywhere up to loss of 400 strands each day. This is considered ‘normal’ in terms of hair fall after child birth. The medical term for this condition is called telogen effluvium. This condition is usually observed 3 months post pregnancy or a way later after you stop lactating. But thankfully, this condition can be treated by taking right measures. Keep reading to find out the 5 tips that can stop hair fall post pregnancy.
1. Eat clean
Diet is the first step for achieving any desired result related to your body. Vitamin E and keratin rich foods contribute a lot in your hair growth. Include foods like eggs, berries, nuts, seeds, sweet potatoes, spinach, fish etc in your diet to stimulate your hair growth. Get enough amounts of protein and iron to strengthen your hair. Remember that everything that appears good on the outside, starts from the inside. Do not eat junk or fatty foods. Make sure that your plate is colorful with lots of fruits and veggies. If you notice hair loss beyond normal, you can use supplements. Biotin, vitamin E, C and zinc are known to control extreme hair loss.
2. Care for your hair
It is almost impossible to treat hair fall without your consistent efforts. Change your hair care routine by opting for mild shampoos and a complementing conditioner to provide moisture. Be gentle on your hair and avoid intensive treatments. Look out for volumizing shampoos as they can be a temporary solution. It is better to stick for shampoos with natural ingredients and those that do not contain parabens and SLS. Don’t use any kind of styling products and heating appliances. The most important tip is to oil your hair at least once a week. Warm oil treatment can be very beneficial in this case. Massaging your hair with castor or almond oil is a great tip for hair growth.
3. Try out DIY hair masks
Instead of splurging on anti hair fall treatments in salons, make hair masks by yourself that are natural. Use natural ingredients that can stimulate hair growth like aloe vera, fenugreek seeds, amla powder, almond oil, egg whites etc. These are popularly known for their role in preventing hair fall and stimulating hair growth. Make sure you do not suffer the dandruff problem as it can only add to your hair fall problem. Take curd in a bowl and add a few drops of lemon juice to it. Mix well, apply on your hair and leave it for 20 minutes. Now wash it off and you can barely notice any dandruff. Try not to brush your hair while it is still wet as it can cause further hair loss. Always use a wide tooth comb for brushing your hair.
4. De stress
Stress can be one of the causes for you to lose more hair than usual after a child birth. As a new mommy, it can be very hectic at times to manage your schedule at home and work. And a toddler is never an exception in this case. So it is important for you to de stress. Make a time table that you can consistently follow or write down a to-do list after waking up in the morning. Managing your time and stress is very important for a new parent. Practice yoga or breathing exercises if you have time. If you cannot make it, then a simple 15 minute meditation daily can help you relieve from your everyday stress.
5. Be patient
Losing hair does not take time, but growing it does take time. The products you see claiming instant hair growth are a myth. They are not a miracle product and such products that induce instant hair growth do not exist. It takes time for each strand of your hair to grow and for the hair to get thick. There is no overnight therapy, so the least you could do is be consistent in taking care of your hair as well as your body.
If you do not notice any results even after a long time, it is time for you to consult a doctor to know about the reason behind it as there can be any other serious problem which is related to your hair fall.
